Where this world stands

According to press coverage of the presentation on 7 June 2026, the developer confirmed Armageddon as one of the planets fought over in Total War: WARHAMMER 40,000, and the gameplay footage shown was set there. The same coverage states it is one of many planets. Whether it was also the campaign was left open on this page until 4 September 2026, and it now has two answers pointing the same way. PC Gamer, reporting on 9 June 2026 on the gameplay shown at the PC Gaming Show, writes that the studio confirmed the player fights their way to Armageddon, and quotes the presentation directly: the end goal, at least for the Orks and the Imperium, is Armageddon. PCGamesN, from Gamescom on 28 August, quotes battle products owner Dave Petry describing the Armageddon campaign as the grimdark cherry at the end of a terrifying cake of death. So Armageddon names a campaign, not only a world — and the qualifier in the quoted sentence is the interesting part, because at least for the Orks and the Imperium leaves two of the four factions out. None of this has been traced to publisher material directly, which is why this page stays marked reported.

What the tabletop establishes

Armageddon is a hive world: vast industrial cities, poisoned wastelands between them, and an economy that exists to feed the Imperial war machine. It is also one of the most heavily documented planets in the setting, because it is where Ghazghkull’s invasions and Yarrick’s defence took place across several named wars. Choosing it is not a neutral decision — it comes with two characters, a defined enemy, and decades of published material.

A hive world of vast industrial cities and poisoned wastelands, and the setting of the wars between Ghazghkull and Yarrick. It is one of the most heavily documented planets in the setting.

Tabletop identity, as established by Games Workshop. It says nothing about the video game.

What has actually been shown

What is reported: Armageddon is in the game, it is one of several planets, it was the setting of the footage, and — since 28 August 2026 — it gives its name to a campaign, in a developer’s own words to the press. What is still not: how many planets there are, whether they are campaign regions or battle locations, what a planet is in map terms, and whether that campaign follows the published Armageddon wars or only borrows the place. And one thing is now half-published rather than unknown: the quoted objective excludes the Space Marines and the Aeldari by its own wording, without saying what theirs is. The publisher’s own announcement speaks of conquering planets and upgrading a fleet, and describes the scale as galactic, without connecting either to a named world.

What to watch next

The open question is what a planet is on a Total War campaign map. Every map the series has made is a continuous surface where distance costs turns and adjacency creates borders — that is what makes territory mean anything. A galaxy is not a surface: planets are points, the space between them is not contested, and what matters is whether you can reach a place at all. Either the campaign flattens the galaxy into something map-like, or it does something the series has not done before. Armageddon being one of many suggested the second, and there is now a second piece of evidence pointing the same way: if Armageddon names a campaign, then a campaign is smaller than the galaxy, and the galaxy is something above it. That is not how any previous Total War is shaped, where the map is the game. Nothing published says what sits above a campaign or how one relates to the next. What is not known

These questions have no published answer as of 28 August 2026. They are listed because an absence of information is information — and because we would rather name the gap than fill it.

?Press coverage of 7 June 2026 reports that the developer confirmed Armageddon as one of the planets fought over in the game.
?The same coverage states it is one of MANY planets — so it is a location, not necessarily the campaign.
?How a Total War campaign map represents a planet, a system or a galaxy has not been described beyond the phrase “a galactic scale”.
