Where this unit stands
Ogryns appear in a single second-hand press listing of Astra Militarum units said to have been shown in June 2026. We were not able to trace that listing back to any official material, so this page treats their presence in the game as unconfirmed. On the tabletop, Ogryns are abhuman shock troops: enormous, slow-witted, and used as close-combat muscle among otherwise fragile Guard infantry.
What the tabletop establishes
Ogryns have been part of the Imperial Guard range for decades, and they solve a specific problem in the army’s design: a force built on massed, cheap, short-lived infantry has almost no answer in melee. Ogryns are that answer. They are few, expensive by Guard standards, and exist to hold a line that lasgun infantry cannot.
Abhuman shock troops of enormous size and limited intellect, used by the Astra Militarum as close-combat muscle among otherwise fragile infantry.
Tabletop identity, as established by Games Workshop. It says nothing about the video game. What has actually been shown
Nothing is published about how Ogryns behave in this game, and this section will stay this short until something is. What can be said is why the question matters: if the Astra Militarum plays as the tabletop suggests — mass infantry, massed artillery, heavy losses — then whatever unit fills the Ogryn role determines whether the faction can hold ground at all, or only trade it.
What to watch next
Treat every Ogryn claim you read today with suspicion, including the claim that they are in the game at all. We found exactly one press listing naming them, with no traceable official source behind it, which is why this page is marked unconfirmed rather than reported. The open question, if they do appear: the Astra Militarum is a shooting army with a melee hole in it, and Total War battles are decided in contact far more often than tabletop games are. Whatever plugs that hole will matter more here than it does on the table. Nothing has been announced. Information correct as of 16 August 2026.
What is not known
These questions have no published answer as of 8 June 2026. They are listed because an absence of information is information — and because we would rather name the gap than fill it.
