Where this faction stands
The Orks are one of four playable factions confirmed for launch, announced by Games Workshop on 12 December 2025. The publisher describes them as hordes of destruction and brutality, relentless and innumerable, wielding unpredictable weapons and clattering war machines, all obeying the primal power of the WAAAGH!. A Stompa appears in the announcement trailer, which Warhammer Community pointed out itself. Press coverage of the 7 June 2026 presentation reports Ork Boyz, Gretchin, Stormboyz, Deff Dreads and Stompas seen in the gameplay section. No statistic has been published for any of them.
What the tabletop establishes
The Orks are a fungal species engineered for war, and the setting is explicit that they grow larger and stronger the more fighting they do. On the tabletop this produces an army that is cheap per model, enormous in unit count, unreliable at range and devastating on the charge, led by whichever Ork has grown biggest. The interesting part for a strategy game is the feedback loop: an army that gets stronger by fighting is a snowball mechanic written into the lore itself, decades before anyone tried to put it in a campaign. Total War has fielded horde factions before — armies without settlements, armies that grow by raiding — but never one whose individual soldiers are meant to physically improve through combat.
A fungal warrior species that exists to fight, growing stronger and larger the more war it wages. On the tabletop the Orks are a horde army: cheap, numerous, unreliable at range, devastating on the charge, and led by the biggest Ork in the vicinity.
Tabletop identity, as established by Games Workshop. It says nothing about the video game. What has actually been shown
The publisher has confirmed the faction and shown it in motion. It has not published a single number. What press accounts of 7 June 2026 describe is a green tide: vast infantry hordes, Stormboyz with rocket packs, Deff Dreads charging Imperial lines, and Stompas moving in the distance. Warhammer Community’s announcement mentions that the game will include units ranging from battleline infantry and tanks to walkers and colossal war engines, and singles out the trailer’s Stompa. That is the extent of it. Anything more specific — how many Boyz to a unit, what a Stompa costs, whether Gretchin are a unit or a mechanic — has not been stated by anyone.
What to watch next
Here is the open question, and it is the most interesting one of the four factions. The WAAAGH! is not a spell or an ability in the setting; it is a psychic field generated by Orks in proportion to how many of them are fighting and how confident they are. Translating that into a Total War battle means a mechanic that strengthens an army as the battle goes its way, which is precisely the kind of positive feedback loop strategy design usually avoids. Either it is bounded in some way the publisher has not described, or the faction behaves unlike anything the series has shipped. Creative Assembly has announced neither. Information correct as of 17 August 2026.
What is not known
These questions have no published answer as of 8 June 2026. They are listed because an absence of information is information — and because we would rather name the gap than fill it.
